Bird Records for the week 11/08/14

Monday, 11 August 2014 13:23:43 Europe/London

August

August is the month to head to the coast, with south west winds lots of seabirds will be going past, anywhere from Cornwall to west Sussex can be good. For Cory’s and Great Shearwaters Cornwall and South Devon are the places to be, I will be in Cornwall at Porthgwarra or Pendeen sometime this month!

Many waders are on the move, Curlew Sandpipers and Knot are turning up in our area, this is also the time for American waders to arrive so look carefully through any dunlin and ringed plover flocks for White Rumped, Pectoral and Baird’s Sandpipers

Recent Bird records (South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the old county of Avon)

10th August

Spotted Crake at Chew Valley lake plus an Osprey

8th August

Just outside of our area, at Slimbridge a pair of Blue headed wagtails have successfully fledged 2 young, the first breeding record at this site.

A Nightjar was at the Cotswold Water Park around pit 82 , very rare at this site !

Mark's Birding & Wildlife Blog 14/07/14

Monday, 14 July 2014 09:39:52 Europe/London

Not much happening with birds this month, a few early breeding summer migrants will be on the move south, end of the month waders will be on the move in good numbers so take a look at any coast or inland lake! If we get south west winds towards the end of the month then Cornwall is the place to be for sea birds such as Cory’s Shearwaters.

Welcome to my wildlife sightings blog, the idea is to share information on the area covered by South Gloucestershire, Wiltshire and the old county of Avon, in other words the general area around Bath and nearby counties.

We have a linked twitter page if you would like to send me any of your sightings or photos, the more interesting ones I may list on the blog page.
