May

Places to visit

I will be watching Chipping Sodbury Common; this area is great for passage Redstarts, whinchats, tree pipits and yellow wagtails. Whitethroat and lesser whitethroat breed here in small numbers; there is a small pond here that has had common and green sandpiper on it plus redshank twice and once a Whimbrel.

The Cotswold Water Park is one of the best sites in our area for Nightingale, on an early morning visit should get you these birds in full song, though they are not easy to see!

Little Ringed Plover, Hobby, Cuckoo, waders, common terns and many warbler species breeding around the pits so there is always something look at.

Severn Beach and Northwick Warth / New Passage area can be excellent in May with many summer plumaged waders moving up the channel, mid-month is the best time for Pomarine Skuas, from an hour before up to just after high tide is best but you need to be lucky!

Salisbury Plain can worth a look if passing through, it is such a large area you could find Stone Curlew, Hobby, Whinchat, Wheatear, Grasshopper Warbler, Turtle Dove and Quail
