Ask anyone in the birding fraternity ‘have you heard of Kowa?’ – the answer will always be yes, in fact many birders first scope would have been a Kowa. For the first time buyer the brand might not be as familiar as some but Kowa have been making quality optics since 1952.

With the introduction of the TSN 77 & 88 series Kowa upped their game & suddenly Kowa were standing shoulder to shoulder with the big names in optics. Large objectives & top quality optics provide stunning performance even under poor lighting conditions or high magnifications.

88mm objective in a small body
The optical design of this spotting scope utilises 5 lens elements in 4 groups which allows a large diameter objective lens within a small body without compromise to its optical performance. Utilising an internal focussing system, Kowa was able to make the prism housing exceptionally compact and light while reducing image movement during focussing. The achromatic design of the objective lens provides unparalleled optical performance while contributing further to the compact size of the telescope.

State-of-the-art Design
Despite its compact size and light weight for an 88mm spotting scope, the Kowa 880 series has been designed with user-friendliness at the core of its objectives. The layout of the controls is logical and they are all easy to reach. Everybody, from the absolute novice to the most demanding of users will enjoy using this high quality instrument.

The body of the TSN-880 series is manufactured via a sophisticated process called thixotropic molding. It has the robustness of a traditional metal casing, but with dramatically reduced weight. As a result of this novel construction methodology, owners can be reassured that the scope can withstand the toughest of conditions.

Dual focus system
For this generation, Kowa has upgraded its scopes to include a dual focus system. There is a high-speed main focus wheel, allowing the traversal of the full focal range (5m-Infinity) within 2 revolutions. The smaller ‘fine grained’ focusser allows pinpoint accuracy and is especially useful at high magnification settings and for digiscoping.

Locking eyepiece bayonet
In this generation of scopes, Kowa has enhanced the previous bayonet eyepiece mounting system with a new locking mechanism to prevent unexpected loosening.

Adaptable tripod mount
The TSN-880 series includes a brass insert, allowing the use of tripods with both 3/8” and 1/4” fittings.

Waterproof and nitrogen-filled
The body of the TSN-880 series is rated to JIS Class 7 (Protected against full immersion) and the scope is nitrogen-filled to prevent internal lens fogging.
